Paula Garant, a former nurse, experienced a life-altering workplace injury in 2011 while serving at the Edmundston Nursing Home. This injury brought not only physical pain but also significant emotional and financial challenges. Unable to return to work, Paula's income was drastically reduced, deeply affecting her family's well-being, and forcing her husband to seek employment in Alberta to support their household.
Despite these hardships, Paula found renewed hope and stability through recent legislative amendments that improved financial benefits for injured workers in New Brunswick. The increase in loss of earnings benefits from 85% to 90% and the raised maximum insurable earnings threshold have provided a much-needed lifeline for Paula and many others dedicated to serving their communities. These changes have allowed Paula to focus on her recovery with dignity and peace of mind.
As a member of the Injured Worker Advisory Committee for WorkSafeNB, Paula is committed to advocating for continuous improvements in the support structures for those who have suffered workplace injuries, and this passion extends beyond her personal experience.
She actively participates in efforts to enhance compensation and care for those affected by workplace injuries, ensuring their contributions are valued and acknowledged. Her dedication to this cause is a testament to her resilience and commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of injured professionals.
