Kirk Westfield dedicated his career to helping others, serving as a paramedic and firefighter, where he encountered critical, often traumatic situations that ultimately led to his diagnosis of PTSD. A still-emerging issue within workers' compensation, psychological injuries like his underscore the need for comprehensive support within the industry. For Kirk, transitioning from his active, on-the-ground career to medical retirement was a challenging adjustment, and he felt the loss of purpose deeply.

Kirk is now eager to fill that void through his involvement with WorkSafeNB’s Injured Worker Advisory Committee. In addition to his extensive background in emergency response and medical care, Kirk’s two decades in the fire service and over 15 years on New Brunswick’s Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) team have further shaped his perspective. He hopes to use his experience to improve the support systems available to others facing similar challenges.

Kirk is driven by a passion for service and advocacy, and he understands the importance of ensuring that workers with psychological and physical injuries receive the care, resources, and recognition they deserve. By sharing his journey, he aims to bring awareness to the critical need for mental health support within workplaces and to help shape meaningful change for future injured workers.
