Twelve workers’ compensation board medical directors met in Saint John from June 11 to 13 for the 2018 Association of Workers’ Compensation Boards of Canada (AWCBC) Medical Directors’ Meeting.
Topics included traumatic psychological injury in the workplace, medicinal and recreational cannabis, concussions, occupational medicine education, opioids and harm reduction and the role of physicians in return to work.
The directors agreed to align policies with national guidelines for opioids and cannabis, support medical education and help physicians in their evolving role in return to work. They also agreed to create a digital repository of resources for the group, to be hosted by WorkSafeNB.
