News Release Empowering Students: 2025 Focus on Safety Student Video Competition

January 27, 2025

High school students, it's time to get creative and make a difference! The annual Focus on Safety Student Video Competition is here, and this is your chance to showcase your talent while exploring an important topic—workplace safety.

We're challenging high school students to create a two-minute original video emphasizing the importance of working safely.

Young people are three to four times more likely to face job-related injuries in their first six months of employment compared to the average Canadian worker. Inexperience, unfamiliarity with health and safety laws, and a lack of confidence to ask questions contribute to their vulnerability.

WorkSafeNB, in collaboration with the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety, is holding this contest to prioritize young workers and the important role they play in making New Brunswick the safest place to work.

Your task is simple yet impactful: create an original video that highlights health and safety risks students may face in their after-school jobs or future careers. From the ergonomics of desk jobs to the hazards of working in kitchens or using heavy equipment, every workplace comes with unique challenges. This contest invites you to think critically and research these risks and how to address them, all while having fun and expressing your creativity.

New Brunswick Prizes:

1st place: $1,000 + $1,000 for school

2nd place: $750 + $750 for school

3rd place: $500 + $500 for school

And here's the exciting part – win first place in New Brunswick, and you stand a chance to win an additional $2,000 in the national CCOHS contest, plus $2,000 for your school.
