News Release WorkSafeNB Invites Public Feedback on Proposed Policy Changes

August 15, 2024

WorkSafeNB is calling on New Brunswickers to participate in the review of two important policies that directly affect workers and employers across the province. As part of WorkSafeNB’s ongoing commitment to ensuring workplace safety and fairness, they are seeking public input on proposed changes to the Experience Rating System and the Setting of Basic Assessment Rates.

New Brunswickers are encouraged to visit the online engagement platform: TalkSafetyNB.ca to participate.

Policy 23-605 - Experience Rating System: The Experience Rating System is a policy to improve equity in sharing workers’ compensation costs among employers, and to improve awareness of safety in the workplace by providing discounts and surcharges based on an employers claim cost experience.

Policy 23-600 - Setting Basic Assessment Rates: The Setting of Basic Assessment Rates policy determines how base rates are calculated for employers across various industries. The proposed revisions seek to ensure these rates are fair, transparent, and reflective of the actual risks and costs associated with each industry.

WorkSafeNB believes the perspectives of New Brunswick workers and employers are vital in shaping policies that are both effective and equitable. By participating in this review, you can help ensure WorkSafeNB policies continue to protect workers while supporting a competitive and sustainable business environment.

WorkSafeNB is committed to transparent and inclusive decision-making. Public feedback will play a crucial role in finalizing these policies, ensuring they meet the needs of the employers and workers they are designed to serve.

The policy review is open for feedback until Aug. 26, 2024.
