Richard Blais, WorkSafeNB’s vice-president of Prevention, said the goal is to ensure the regulations reflect current modernized industry practices and align with other jurisdictions across Canada.

“We anticipate these regulatory amendments will enhance workplace safety and foster a robust culture of safety in New Brunswick, ultimately leading to a reduction in the number of injuries,” Blais said.

The ongoing work to amend General Regulation 91-191 includes a wide range of topics. The proposed changes are being reviewed and implemented in three phases:

  • Amendments from Phase I were implemented in June 2022.
  • Amendments from Phase II were implemented in February 2023.
  • Input for Phase III will be open until April 3, with amendments to be implemented later this year.

Blais said he appreciated everyone who took time to share their views during last year’s reviews.

“The feedback we received was invaluable. Let’s continue these collaborative efforts to make New Brunswick the safest place to work.”
