The annual WorkSafeNB Safety Star Awards recognizes New Brunswickers who make health and safety a priority every day.
One of these awards, the Health and Safety Educator Award, honours two New Brunswick educators or groups who make youth health and safety a priority through education – one each from the anglophone and francophone school sectors.
We invite the public to submit nominations for this award until May 19, 2017. Nominees must be employees of a school or Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) centre in either a K-12 or ELCC-12 environment. Other criteria include promoting health and safety leadership in and out of the classroom, and incorporating learning opportunities, such as safety talks and health presentations, in curriculum.
“They are leaders among peers and students, demonstrating a deep commitment to the long-term health and safety of New Brunswick’s young people,” said Tim Petersen, WorkSafeNB’s acting president and CEO.
Last year, WorkSafeNB honoured Keith Armstrong of Harbour View High School and Charles Allain of École Mathieu-Martin during its annual Safety Stars Breakfast in Moncton.
“Both Mr. Allain and Mr. Armstrong are strong safety ambassadors,” Petersen said. “They show students, parents and fellow teachers that safety is a culture, one developed through consistency and practice. We thank them for their efforts.”
The WorkSafeNB Safety Star Awards will be presented at the 2017 WorkSafeNB Health and Safety Conference, which takes place October 4 to 6 in Saint John.
