WorkSafeNB is now even more hands-on to help employers improve workplace safety.
As part of its ongoing commitment to help employers create healthy and safe work environments for New Brunswickers, WorkSafeNB has hired seven additional health and safety officers. This means increased prevention activities, expanded educational resources and more presence and support for New Brunswick employers.
“We know the best benefit we can give New Brunswick workers is to prevent them from being hurt in the first place,” said Gerard Adams, president and CEO of WorkSafeNB. “This increased investment allows us to be more collaborative and more proactive. We will reach even more workers and employers – before an accident happens.”
Beginning in January, WorkSafeNB health and safety officers will visit businesses that have not had recent inspections.
“We’ll visit employers in high-risk industries that haven’t had an inspection in the last five years,” Adams said.
In spring 2016, health and safety officers will visit residential construction worksites and workplaces that operate beyond the typical nine-to-five workday.
Inspections will address such topics as orientation, incident reporting, health and safety committees and first aid.
WorkSafeNB offers several new resources to help employers prepare for visits on its online Safety Excellence NB portal. These include a video, fact sheet and checklists.
WorkSafeNB’s addition of officers is part of a long-term investment in occupational health and safety services. Other initiatives include safety leadership and programming and increased prevention activities for youth.
