“Make Safety a Habit” is the theme of this year’s North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week that runs from May 3-9.
Launched by the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE), NAOSH Week focuses on workplace injury and illness prevention.
WorkSafeNB has partnered with CSSE to bring this message to workers in New Brunswick.
New Brunswick legislation requires workplaces with more than 20 people to establish a Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC), dedicated to improving health and safety conditions in the workplace.
“JHSCs ensure that everything possible is done to prevent health and safety hazards,” said Gerard Adams, WorkSafeNB’s president and CEO. “Committees identify potential health and safety problems and bring them to the employer’s attention.”
NAOSH Week is a good time to focus on your workplace’s health and safety program. WorkSafeNB and the CSSE encourage all workplaces to evaluate existing safety programs, increase the understanding of health and safety issues specific to the workplace and promote healthy lifestyle choices.
The New Brunswick Chapter of the CSSE, for the 25th consecutive year, is hosting events throughout New Brunswick to celebrate NAOSH Week. Volunteers organize events and activities, from flag raisings and safety symposiums to safety day camps and employee training sessions.
“This is the CSSE’s opportunity to promote workplace safety and to recognize those individuals and committees who are the champions of health and safety in their organizations,” said Michael Bérubé, workforce safety consultant with Horizon Health Network.
