News Release WorkSafeNB's Rehabilitation Centre awarded highest level of accreditation

October 4, 2013

WorkSafeNB’s Rehabilitation Centre (WRC) has once again been awarded the highest level of accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) International. The WRC’s comprehensive occupational rehabilitation programs and vocational evaluation services were accredited for a three-year period.

“Accreditation demonstrates that our programs and services are transparent, measureable, accountable and of the highest quality. There are more than 1,000 standards to meet, and in many areas, we not only met expectations but exceeded them,” said Gerard Adams, WorkSafeNB’s president and chief executive officer. “It’s a testament to our commitment to our goals, especially those of safety, service and return to work.”

To earn CARF’s stamp of approval, the WRC underwent a rigorous peer-review process, including an onsite survey. In addition to interviews with staff, clients and their families, the surveyors observed organizational practices, and reviewed documentation. In announcing the accreditation decision, CARF president and chief executive officer Brian J. Boon wrote, “This achievement is an indication of your organization’s dedication and commitment to improving the quality of the lives of the persons served. Services, personnel, and documentation clearly indicate an established pattern of practice excellence.”

“We are extremely proud of this achievement,” said Eileen Keating, manager of Work Recovery at the WRC. “WRC staff dedicated countless hours to accreditation. Since CARF is focused on continuous improvements, our day-to-day work and activities are an integral part of our preparation. CARF has surveyed hundreds of thousands of programs throughout the world, and a three-year accreditation – the highest that can be achieved – means that we are among the best.”

In their report on WorkSafeNB’s performance, CARF commended the WRC for the specially developed treatment protocols carried out by highly-skilled clinicians, as well as for the meaningful services developed to meet client needs.

CARF’s report also noted that the WRC fosters a dynamic culture of program evaluation, outcomes management and performance improvement. It also stated that the clients, referral sources and employers expressed highest levels of satisfaction with the quality of services. In addition, WRC staff were applauded for maintaining a very positive and collaborative culture that allows open communication, ideas generation and ready support for each other, enhancing client experience and outcomes.
