Monument honouring
fallen workers unveiled
A crowd of about 400 people stood in
the Saint John fog and drizzle on April 28 to remember workers who’ve died on
the job.
They were
attending the National Day of Mourning ceremony held at Lily
Lake’s Hatheway Pavilion, where a monument dedicated to fallen
and injured workers was unveiled. Click here to

Disability Awareness
Week celebrates perseverance and determination
For the
118,000 New Brunswickers living with a disability, obstacles
in the home, workplace and community are a part of daily life.
To recognize their perseverance, WorkSafeNB urges everyone to
help eradicate barriers and to join us in celebrating
Disability Awareness Week (DAW).
“YES WE CAN!” is a mindset held by
many workers facing adversity and is the motto for this year’s
celebration. The 24th Annual Disability Awareness
Week, May 29-June 4, will acknowledge everyone who refuses to
be held back by a disability.
Activities will be organized by the
Premier's Council on the Status of Disabled Persons to raise
awareness about daily struggles faced when living with a
disability. Click here to

Keep an eye on
safety
Close your eyes. Now
imagine living in this darkness for the rest of your
life.
What
would you miss the most? Not seeing the cherished faces of
your loved ones? Never knowing what’s in front of
you? Never witnessing the changing
seasons?
Our
vision is a gift that we must not take for granted. May is
Vision Health Month, and WorkSafeNB would like to remind
everyone to keep an eye on safety.
In New
Brunswick alone, 4,000 eye injuries were reported to
WorkSafeNB between 2002 and 2006. By 2010, that number climbed
by 2,600 cases. With the right precautions, these injuries
could have been prevented. Click here to read more.

Q: I am wondering if, under the new fall
arrest legislation [amendments to General Regulation

A:
Under the Regulation,
“suspended equipment” means any permanently installed or
temporary fixed suspended work platform, swing staging,
boatswain’s chair or other similar device suspended by support
lines or other means, designed to carry employees for the
purpose of gaining access to exterior and interior building
surfaces and other structures. More
