Our main goal is to help you return to work. Depending on your injury, you may not be able to do your original job right away. In that case, we’ll work with you and your employer to decide how your job can be changed to allow you to return. This may include different duties, reduced hours, or using different equipment to help you work. This is called modified or gradual return to work.
Returning to work is a crucial aspect of recovery from workplace injury. Going back to work not only brings financial stability but can also help speed up the healing process, keeps people active and provides a renewed sense of purpose. Most injuries don’t entirely prevent you from working. But, you may be working at a different job or for fewer hours per week during your transition back to work. And, in some cases, you may need some time off to recover before returning to work in any capacity. Regardless of your situation, we provide financial support during this time.
Income benefits: In most cases if you miss time from work, you’re entitled to receive 85% of your usual take-home pay, up to a maximum insurable amount. As your circumstances change, your income replacement benefit may change too.
Personal care: If you need help at home following your workplace injury you may be eligible for home care services including nursing, physical care assistance, and help with daily activities.
Travel expenses: We may also cover your mileage or transportation to and from medical appointments.
Sometimes a work-related injury or illness results in a permanent disability. When they do, we are here to help workers and their families every step of the way.
Vocational rehabilitation: On rare occasions a workplace injury can affect your ability to return to your previous job. That’s where our vocational rehabilitation services come in. We will help you safely find other suitable employment through skills development, job search assistance and, in certain circumstances, retraining. We will work with you to find the right solution that fits your situation.
Impairment award: If you do not fully recover from your work-related injury or illness, you may be entitled to a lump sum physical impairment award. A WorkSafeNB medical advisor will assess you, which may involve a physical examination.
