“It’s Your Job” student video contest winners announced

A video that encourages youth to know their rights and be aware of workplace hazards has won first prize in WorkSafeNB’s “It’s Your Job” student video contest.

Johnathan Duffy of Caledonia Regional High School, in Hillsborough, has won $1,000 for his efforts and $1,000 for his school.

The contest that ran from January 8 to April 10 invited students to create a two-minute video that illustrates the importance of working safely.

Videos were judged on creativity and originality instory development, production value, video effects and overall messaging.

New Brunswick winners are:

  • First place: Practice Makes Perfect by Johnathan Duffy, Caledonia Regional High School, Hillsborough

  • Second place: Communication au travail by Alexandre Bischoff, Félix Drolet, Boris Popov and Phil Laforge, École Sainte-Anne, Fredericton
  • Third place: Précautions de base by Dayna Muzey and Cassandra Carr,
    École Sainte-Anne, Fredericton

“We’re pleased with all the efforts by these New Brunswick students. It shows a deep commitment to workplace safety and I applaud their ingenuity and dedication,” said Gerard Adams, president and CEO of WorkSafeNB.

Winning videos from New Brunswick will now compete in the Canadian finals, sponsored by the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety, for a chance to win additional cash prizes.

All winning videos from the various Canadian jurisdictions will be available to view and be voted on during an online “Fan Favourite” week from May 2 to 10. The student or team that receives the most “Fan Favourite” votes will be awarded a $1,000 cash prize.
